Your tour will begin in Sarria or Ponferrada and end at the trail's final destination, Santiago de Compostela. The week long, or two week long, walk takes you along the most popular Camino route. You will wander through the truly beautiful Galacian countryside and meet fellow pilgrims along the way.

A 5-minute walk from Sarria centre, this hotel is ideally located to access both the town centre, and the Camino trail.

Pousada de Portomarin, Portomarin

Ideally located, the Pousada features a garden, a bar and a shared lounge. There is also a restaurant serving local and international food.

Complejo la Cabana, Palas de Rei

3-star

A beautiful hotel located in a lovely lush area. Spread across three wooden cabins, le Cabana also features a children’s playground and a games room. There is a café and a restaurant.

Casa Teodora, Arzua

2-star

This hotel offers 28 rooms, a shared lounge and a cafeteria. There is also a renowned restaurant serving traditional Galician cuisine.

O’Muino de Pena, Amenal

This charming hotel is ideally located at a short shuttle-drive distance from the trail. The old mill boasts beautiful rooms and there is also a restaurant serving local food.

Located by the cathedral, this converted monastery offers comfortable accommodation.

El Castillo, Ponferrada

Ideally located next to the Camino trail and the Templarios Castle, this hotel offers a restaurant which serves delicious local cuisine.

Casa la Llave, Villafranca

Set in a restored 17th Century house, this hotel has classic décor. It is located just a minute’s walk from a fun local restaurant and a bar.

Paraiso del Bierzo, Herreiras

This rustic wooden and stone house is located right on the edge of the Camino route. All rooms are very comfortable and include wooden features. There is also an on-site restaurant.

Day 1

Arrival in Sarria.

Arrival in Sarria before checking in to your first accommodation.

Day 2

From Sarria to Portomarin | 14 miles (22km).

Your first day of walking will take you to the quiet town of Portomarin. You will wander through pretty villages and peaceful hamlets along calm country roads. If time allows, you will have the chance to visit the stunning Romanesque church of Barbadelo before continuing on to Portomarin.

Day 3

From Portomarin to Palas de Rei | Distance 16 miles (25km).

As you make your way to the hamlet of Palas de Rei, you will cross Galicia’s longest river – the river Miño and make your way up the hill to the village of Serra de Ligonde. Along the way you will pass quaint villages such as Gonzar and Ventas de Narón. You will also have the chance to stop and visit the churches of Santa María in Castromaior and the church in Eirexe.

Day 4

From Palas de Rei to Arzua | Distance 12 miles (18km).

Today’s downhill walk will lead you to the small town of Melide after walking through various villages such as Casanova and Leboreiro. You will also cross several streams and follow a forest track bringing you to the village of Boente and the church of Santiago. Before arriving to your final destination, you will pass through the medieval hamlet of Ribadiso.

Day 5

From Arzua to Amenal | Distance 15 miles (23km).

After wandering through woods, quiet villages and over streams you will arrive at the final destination of Amenal. Along the way you will have the chance to see the chapel of Santa Irene, pass the beautiful village of Rúa where you could alternatively choose to stay for the night and split this day in half.

Day 6

From Amenal to Santiago | Distance 10 miles (16km).

Before arriving to Santiago, you will cross Lavacolla where monks used to wash themselves in the river before the end of their trek. You will walk round to Monte de Gozo where you will catch your first glimpse of the cathedral in Santiago.

Day 7

End in Santiago.

You have completed the final 100km of the ‘French Way’. After breakfast we say “adios” and “te veo pronto”! We do recommend you spend an extra day in Santiago to soak up the wonderful atmosphere.

Day 1

Arrival in Ponferrada.

Arrival in Ponferrada before checking in to your first accommodation.

Day 2

From Ponferrada to Villafranca del Bierzo | Distance 14 miles (23km).

Your first day walking takes you through the iconic lush mountains of El Bierzo. Upon arrival we recommend visiting the garden of the Iglesia de Santiago, St James Church. There are lovely options for dinner so savour the tastes of the local cuisine.

Day 3

From Villafranca to Herrias | Distance 13 miles (21km).

With Herrias as your final destination, you will pass through the ranges of Os Ancres and Serra do Courel. The walking today includes quite a steep climb, but the views from the top are definitely worth the effort.

Day 4

From Herrias to O’Cebreiro | Distance 6 miles (9km).

The walking today is over a shorter distance but again involves quite a steady ascent for a few kilometres.

Day 5

From O’Cebreiro to Triacastela | Distance 13 miles (21km).

As you make your way to the hamlet of Palas de Rei, you will cross Galicia’s longest river – the river Miño and make your way up the hill to the village of Serra de Ligonde. Along the way you will pass quaint villages such as Gonzar and Ventas de Narón. You will also have the chance to stop and visit the churches of Santa María in Castromaior and the church in Eirexe.

Day 6

From Tricastela to Sarria | Distance 12 miles (19km).

Today you have the choice of two different routes. You can either take the ‘San Xil’ trail amongst the forests and Galacian oak woods, or you can visit the Samos Monastery and walk across the Ouribio valley to reach Sarria.

Day 7

From Sarria to Portomarin | 14 miles (22km).

Your first day of walking will take you to the quiet town of Portomarin. You will wander through pretty villages and peaceful hamlets along calm country roads. If time allows, you will have the chance to visit the stunning Romanesque church of Barbadelo before continuing on to Portomarin.

Day 8

From Portomarin to Ventas de Naron | Distance 8 miles (13km).

You will start the day by crossing the longest river of Galacia, the Miño and head uphill to the town of Sierra de Ligonde. Along the way you will pass quaint villages and we recommend resting your feet, enjoying a coffee and soaking up the ambience of the trail.

Day 9

From Ventas de Naron to Palas de Rei | Distance 7 miles (11km).

As you make your way to the hamlet of Palas de Rei, you will have the chance to stop and visit the churches of Santa María in Castromaior and the church in Eirexe.

Day 10

From Palas de Rei to Melide | Distance 9 miles (14km).

Today’s downhill walk will lead you to the small town of Melide after walking through various villages such as Casanova and Leboreiro. Your trail will cross several streams and follow a lovely forest track. Before arriving at your final destination, we recommend that you stop off at Melide’s local market for a traditional octopus dish.

Day 11

From Melide to Arzua | Distance 9 miles (14km).

On today’s trail  you will wander through woods, quiet villages and over streams to the village of Arzua. Along the way you will discover the pretty hamlets of Boente and Ribadiso. You can also visit the churches of Santa Maria and A Magdalena. Once at Arzua, we recommend that you taste the local cheese – a real delight!

Day 12

From Arzua to Rua Pedrouzo | Distance 12 miles (19km).

This is a slightly longer walking day to Rua Pedrouzo. You will wander through sleepy villages, across streams and enjoy beautiful views. A stop at the Santa Irene chapel is highly recommended – where you will find the unique statue of Santiago.

Day 13

From Rua Pedrouzo to Santiago | Distance 11 miles (18km).

This is your final day on the Camino de Santiago. You will cross Lavacolla where monks traditionally washed themselves in the river before the end of their trek. You will walk round to Monte de Gozo and from here catch your first glimpse of the cathedral in Santiago.

Day 14

End in Santiago.

You have completed the 119 miles of the ‘French Way’. After breakfast we say “adios” and “te veo pronto”! We do recommend you spend an extra day in Santiago to soak up the wonderful atmosphere.
