Enjoy a mountain bike tour along this magnificent coastline. The Bay of Kotor is one of the most stunning in the world; from the vibrant and contemporary Budva Riviera to serene Vipazar. This tour is filled with castles, fortress walls and fishing villages, all tucked between orchards and the sea, making for one of the most picturesque cycling experiences you could ask for. 

Starting off the old royal capital of Cetinje, the route continues on to the beautiful Lake Skadar, through to Ulcinj - one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast - then onto visit one of the world's oldest olive trees, the Old Olive of Mirovica. Towards the end of the tour, you will cycle towards Lovcen National Park and to the Old Town of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tour ends with an exploration of the Bay of Kotor, with a trip along its coastline and onto Lustic, which gives you an opportunity to swim before a farewell seafood dinner.

Day 1

Dubrovnik Airport to Cetinje.

After your arrival, you will be transferred to the old royal capital, Cetinje. You'll attend a briefing for your tour and get the chance to make any bike adjustments. There's also time to stroll around the town and explore, before a welcome dinner.

Day 2

From Lake Skadar to Virpazar | Distance 34 miles (55km).

Your first day of riding is a beautiful cycling route to the biggest lake in the Balkans, Lake Skadar. It is also one of Europe’s best bird watching sites. You can take rest in Rijeka Crnojevica before continuing onto the fishing village of Virpazar. Virpazar is a jewel in Montenegro with a population of under 400 people. You will also ride through Crmnica, the most renowned wine region in Montenegro.

Day 3

From Lake Skadar to Ulcinj | Distance 44 miles (70km).

You will cycle along the shoreline of Lake Skadar with views of islands, fishing villages and chestnut groves. At all times you will have stunning views of the lake and the Albanian Alps. A final descent will take you into the city of Ulcinj, one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast, dating from the 5th Century BC. The old town castle was built by the Illyrians and Ancient Greeks.

Day 4

From Ulcinj to Old Bar to Budva | Distance 41 miles (65km).

Today, you will cycle south from Ulcinj to the coastal town of Old Bar. In the first section of the day’s ride, you will pass the resort town of Donji Stolj and continue on to then cycle next to the salt flats. Just before reaching Old Bar, you will find olive groves lining your path. It is here that you will stop to visit the Old Olive of Mirovica, said to be one of the oldest olive trees in the world at 2,000 years old. You will have free time in Old Bar to explore the alleys and discover various historic buildings before transferring to Budva, a beautifully picturesque and vibrant coastal town.

Day 5

From Cetinje to Kotor | Distance 31 miles (50km).

The day starts with a transfer uphill to Cetinje to start your ride along the old road towards Lovcen National Park. From Ivanova Korita, you will ride along the old wagon trail to the foot of Jezerski Vrh and over the Trešnja Saddle to visit the old spring in Sanik. Your route descends towards Bukovica where you can get some refreshments from Kod Pera, a café that has been open every single day for more than 100 years. You will then explore another military road around the Bogojeva Glava mountain, before a lovely downhill ride Njegusi. After, it is just one short climb to the mountain pass of Krstac, before riding down to the well-known Lovcen Road to the Old Town of Kotor. This town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kotor is well-known for its stunning architecture and beautiful setting in a secluded part of the Boka Kotorska Bay. The Old Town (Stari Grad) is a maze of cobbled lanes that link smaller squares with ancient churches and aristocratic mansions together.

Day 6

Kotor Bay | Distance 43 miles (68km).

Exploring the Bay of Kotor is the itinerary for today. It is a gentle round trip along the beautiful coastline. From the settlement of Kamenari, you can ride over Lipci and Gornje Ledenice to Risan, or you can cycle to Kerzeg Novi and back. In Perast, you will take a return boat trip to visit the church island, Our Lady of the Rocks. The final section of your ride will be along Dobrota back to your accommodation in Kotor.

Day 7

Peninsula of Lustica | Distance 31 miles (50km).

Today’s tour will take you to the peninsula of Lustica at the entrance of the Bay of Kotor. From here, you can enjoy great views of the fortification islands, the bay and the Adriatic Sea. You can have a taste of olive oil produced in the region and take the opportunity to have a swim at one of the beaches. You will have enough time for sightseeing in the old town before a farewell dinner that is packed with seafood specialities.

Day 8

Transfer to Podgorica/Tivat/Dubrovnik Airports.

You will be scheduled a transfer to Podgorica, Tivat or Dubrovnik Airports depending on your flight times.

We will arrange for you to share accommodation with another traveller of the same gender and if we cannot match you up we will provide a single room at no extra charge. Minimum age 18.

This trip is suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and some off-road riding experience. This trip is not too arduous, and so riders with less experience are more than welcome, although the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy it. 

This trip includes ascending every day. On a few sections, there will be minimal vehicle support, but you will be met by a vehicle at meeting points where possible. 


Bikes are not provided on this tour, however, they can be hired locally. These are well-known mountain bikes with lightweight alloy frames, 24- to 27- speed gearing, v-brakes, and Shimano components and front suspension.
