Are you a destination ditherer or do you make a beeline for the best deals? Daydreaming about holidays can be fun, but these dreams don’t come true by themselves. We’re more of the carpe diem type of holiday bookers, and we believe grabbing opportunities and booking early is the best thing, both for your holiday mood and your wallet. Here’s why you should always try and sneak in ahead of the crowd.
1. Fantastic offers
The early bird really does get the worm when it comes to booking holidays—and they often get a gift too, whether it’s a cheeky case of wine or money off per person. Prompt bookings are when deals are most encouraging, like our 2019 bookings for self-guided tours of heavenly Provence and the châteaux-filled Loire, where you can save £100 for each person booking. You have your choice of resorts too, with some offering 15% off your final amount. Have a look at trapeze, tennis and sailing at Kamarina Beach Club in Sicily; snorkelling and golf at Phuket Beach Club on the golden sands in Thailand; or windsurfing at Punta Cana Beach Club in the Dominican Republic's turquoise waters.
2. Time to tailor your experience
We don’t like to toot our own horn too much, but many of our holidays sell out early, especially popular group tours and Bike & Boat tours. If you’re booking with a large number of people, doing it sooner rather than later will ensure there’s definitely space for you. Even if it’s just you, it's nice to enjoy a bespoke experience and you’ll want to have dibs on the best accommodation. Whether you have an eye on a luxurious hotel in Spain or the perfect lodge in Laos, it’s always worth reserving your spot early so you know your dream bed and breakfast is waiting for you.
3. Low-priced flights
First-time flyers might not know, but flight prices—especially long-haul ones—tend to go up rather than down as time goes on. While it is possible to get great last-minute deals on your plane journey, it’s not always probable, and the pressure is often on for you to find something fast or accept whatever is left. As a rule of thumb, between nine and 11 months is a great time to shop around for flights. Be savvy about classic sale times too; many flights drop for Black Friday, January sales and other popular ‘deal periods’.
4. The holiday buzz
The earlier you book, the earlier you can start counting down the days. Having a holiday marked on your calendar is fantastic motivation and it gives you a goal, whether that's a challenging cycling or walking route, or an action-packed hotel stay. See if you can feel the buzz in the air at home, or among your friends, as soon as you know you’re booked and ready to go.
Save the lie-ins until you actually reach your destination and get booking. You can even get in touch and tell us what your dream holiday would be, and our experts will help you create an incredible short list.Back To Blog
