Day 2 | Cycle Munich to Murnau am Staffelsee | Distance 40 miles (65km).
Leaving Munich, your first day in the saddle will take you southwest through Forstenieder Park to the elegant Lake Starnberg, the second largest in Bavaria and an excellent place to stop and admire the Bavarian Alps in the background. The town has a pedestrianised centre with art galleries, small streets and restaurants to explore.
Day 3 | Cycle Murnau am Staffelsee to Garmisch-Partenkirchen | Distance 25 miles (40km).
Today you’ll cycle through a nature reserve called Murnauer Moos following the River Loisach along its broad glaciated valley. In Garmisch you can enjoy the excellent shops, restaurants and cafes, while panoramic views of the Alps may tempt you to take a cable car to the Zugspitze summit.
Day 4 | Cycle Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Wallgau | Distance 28 miles (45km).
From Garmisch, a train (5 Euros payable locally) takes you to Scharnitz in Austria where you’ll cycle to the spring of the River Isar. Then the route takes you through a valley down to Mittenwald, with spectacular views of the Karwendel and Wettersteinebirge mountains before reaching your destination for the evening, the traditional village of Wallgau.
Day 5 | Cycle Wallgau to Bad Tolz | Distance 31 miles (50km).
Continuing alongside the River Isar, you’ll follow the crystal clear turquoise waters of Lake Sylvenstein through picturesque landscapes until you reach Lenggries, a popular walking destination with majestic mountains rising up on both sides. Then its on to the spa town of Bad Tolz your next stop, a beautiful cobbled old town.
Day 6 | Cycle Bad Tolz to Tegernsee Round Trip | Distance 28 miles (45km).
Today you may choose to relax and enjoy the thermal waters of the famous spa or alternatively there is a round trip cycle ride to Gmund on Lake Tegernsee east of Bad Tolz. Enjoy a relaxing lunch with panoramic lake views before cycling back through the Gaissbach valley.
Day 7 | Cycle Bad Tolz to Munich | Distance 38 miles (60km).
Your final day’s cycling will again follow the Isar bike path from Bad Tolz through Geretsried and Wolfratshausen directly to Grunwald before arriving back in the Bavarian capital of Munich.
