So, you’re trying to book a cycling holiday but you’re not sure whether you want to go for a self-guided or guided tour. Both types of tours are great for any level of cyclist, but, there are a few differences between them that are good to know before you go. Here is a guide on what to expect from both tours so you can find out which one suits you the best.
Self-guided tours are better for cyclists with a little more experience, this isn't to say that an experienced cyclist can’t have fun on a guided group tour, the holidays are just suited more to those who have a little more confidence in the saddle. Self-guided cycling tours allow for an extra layer of freedom. On your travels, you will be able to set the pace you want to ride at, stop for lunch when you want to; with no pressure to hop back on your bike and cycle to your next location. You can also choose to either follow the detailed daily route map or make as many detours as you desire.
You don’t have to do it all yourself though, our cycling experts will supply you with holiday packs with relevant information about the area. You will also be equipped with everything you need, from contact numbers and an interactive map app to a puncture repair kit.
Self-guided tours are not as daunting as they might initially seem. Our destination managers will move your luggage between hotels as you cycle and are always at hand to help if you ever have a question about the area or if get into a spot of trouble.
Guided Cycling Holidays
Guided cycling routes are perfect for those who are new to cycling holidays or cycling in general; they allow for ultimate comfort and you need little to no experience cycling to complete one. Typically, a guided group could be anywhere between 5 to 20 people. You can either travel with friends and family or if you choose to travel alone, you can relax knowing that you're among a group of like-minded cyclists who share your interests.
Your group will be led by an English-speaking local guide who will have extensive knowledge of the region and terrain; they also have a wealth of experience and a passion for cycling. The guide will take you to the most spectacular places and point out the hidden gems, but they will also be there to help if you ever get stumped by something; like having a flat tyre, or if you are wondering where the best restaurant in the area is.
Whether you want to take a cycling tour around the dramatic cliffs and sparkling coastline of the Amalfi coast or visit the mighty Cathar castles in southwest France; our cycling experts can recommend the perfect guided cycling tour to suit you.Back To Blog
