7 Day Tour

Day 1

Arrive at Catania airport and transfer to our base hotel in Caltagirone. Caltagirone is renowned for its ceramics which have been produced for a thousand years. Most of the buildings are decorated with the local ceramics in this baroque town which is brimming with palaces and churches.

Day 2

You will start the day with a transfer to Piazza Armerina famous for its Villa Romana del Casale which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. This imperial Vila with its multicoloured mosaic floors was first excavated in 1950, dates back to the 4th century AD and was probably a hunting lodge and summer residence owned by a powerful Roman family. After exploring this pretty and historic town you will cycle back to Caltagirone (22 miles/35 kms).

Day 3

Leaving Caltagirone, today you will cycle southwards to Comiso in the Sicilian province of Ragusa passing olive groves in the lower valleys (28 miles/45 kms). You will then be transferred from Comiso to Modica where you will stay the night in this spectacular medieval city. Modica is one of the pearls of baroque Sicily and one of the most stimulating towns in the region. Explore the bustling streets and try the local speciality spicy chilli chocolate!

Day 4

Today’s cycle descends through the low Iblei mountains past cave formations and through scenic landscape to another baroque town Scicli, which is where the well known TV series Inspector Montalbano is set. The route will then continue onto Pozzallo situated on the coast, an attractive town with blue flag beaches and perfect for a dip in the sea after a day in the saddle (22 miles/35 kms).

Day 5

Marzamemi is today’s destination and on route you will cycle to continental Europe’s most southerly point at Portopalo di Capo Passero and the island of Correnti where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Ionian sea (34 miles/55 kms). Marzamemi is a pretty fishing town with lots of charming restaurants ideal for enjoying the local tuna.

Day 6

The route now heads North along the Ionian coast through the Vendicari Nature Reserve to the UNESCO listed town of Noto (16 miles/25 kms). Vendicari is an extraordinary expanse of wild flower fields, lagoons and marshlands protected for migratory species and has some beautiful beaches perfect for a refreshing dip during your cycle ride. Your destination is considered the finest Baroque town in Sicily and a relatively unknown gem. The centre is one of the most stunning in Italy and one of it’s highlights is Corso Vittorio Emanuele the main walkway along which you will find impressive piazzas, churches and golden stone buildings.

Day 7

Today you will continue North to the ancient city of Syracuse, once the capital of Greece and home to Archimedes (22 miles/35kms). After your last day’s cycle, enjoy the ancient Greek ruins, bustling piazzas and archeological sites set to the backdrop of the sparkling blue sea and the island of Ortigia. You can also add on extra nights in this delightful city.

Day 8

After breakfast, we say “Arrivederci” before returning home from Catania
