Follow the South Tyrolean wine route from the gorgeous spa town of Merano past historic castles, apple orchards and vineyards. Enjoy views of the dramatic Dolomites and the Etsch valley with spectacular alpine walks, and visit the regional capital Bolzano, full of Italian flair.

Arrive at Innsbruck or Verona
Transfer by train to your first hotel in the alpine town of Merano. Enjoy wondering around this lovely spa town famous for its sunny climate, art nouveau architecture and stunning mountain scenery, which is why it’s also known as the Italian Shangri-La.
From Merano to Nals | Distance 12 miles (19km / 5.5 hours)
Your first walk of your holiday takes you south to the village of Nals through apple orchards and forests past Tisens, famous for its delicious sweet chestnuts. There are beautiful views of the Etsch valley and Bolzano as you reach Nals, the village of roses, which is situated on the Sudtirol wine route. Enjoy a glass of wine from the local vineyards or visit one of the famous 3 castles, Stachelburg, Schwanburg or Payrsberg.
From Nals to Bolzano | Distance 7 miles (11km / 4 hours)
Today you’ll take a mountain path offering panoramic views past fortresses and castles onto Eppan, one of the many wine growing villages of the region and the perfect place for a coffee stop or a spot of lunch. Then it’s a short bus ride to the regional capital of Bolzano and gateway to the Dolomites. Medieval Bolzano is bursting with Italian ambience, ideal for wandering around the market and soaking up the culture. The archaeology museum is worth a visit, known for its 3,500-year-old Neolithic mummy.
From Bolzano to Molten | Distance 7 miles (11km / 4.5 hours)
In the morning you will take the cable car up to Jenesien and have the chance to admire the spectacular views of the South Tyrol across Lake Kalterer See and towards the stunning Dolomites. Your walk takes you through picturesque meadows and ancient forests to the village of Molten on the high plateau of the Tschoggelberg mountain, your stop for the next two nights.
Molten Round Trip | Distance 9 miles (14km / 4 hours)
Relax in the beautiful village of Molten which is situated at 1100 metres and surrounded by magnificent scenery or take the circular walk through flower covered meadows, fragrant larch forests and alpine pastures, always with gorgeous views across the mountain peaks and the Etsch valley abound.
From Molten to Merano | Distance 8 miles (13km / 5 hours)
The final stage of your tour follows a high-altitude path back to the town of Merano with yet more lovely alpine views and a stop at the Leadner Alm for a traditional hearty lunch of homemade dumplings. Then it’s on to the marvellous Trauttmannsdorff palace and its botanical gardens before descending to the centre of Merano for a delicious dinner and well-deserved glass of wine.
Extend your stay in Merano or we say “arrivederci” or “auf wiedersehen” before you take the train back to Innsbruck or Verona.
