The Girona Road Bike Experience | Self Guided

7 Day / 6 Night Tour

Day 1

Arrive at Girona or Barcelona.

Transfer to your base hotel. A welcome meeting and bike fitting will take place today, or tomorrow morning if you are arriving late.

Day 2

Suggested Ride: Les Gavarres - 60km/950m ascent.

What better way to start your holiday than by taking on arguably the most famous road cycling route from Girona, The Els Àngels loop. The route features two climbs and two descents, in the Les Gavarres mountains. These roads were used in the 2009 Tour de France, so you will be following in the tyre tracks of the greatest race on earth.

Meals include: Breakfast

Day 3

Suggested Ride: Sant Hillari – 102km/1510m ascent.

A longer route is on offer today, featuring one long climb. This is the 25km of twisting tarmac up to the mountain village of Sant Hillari Sacalm, which sits 900m above sea level. The climb is long, but not too steep, averaging 2.6% and peaking at 7%. From the top it’s a long and exhilarating descent and a flat ride back to the city.

Meals include: Breakfast

Day 4

Suggested Ride: Olot – 109km/1500m ascent.

This is another route that will allow you to put some big miles into your legs. Whilst the route doesn’t feature any long climbs, it does contain some serious ascent over its entirety, with constant undulation throughout the day. On route you’ll pass through the volcanic landscape of the Garrotxa region. The annual Girona Gran Fondo uses this route, which is a strong endorsement.

Meals include: Breakfast

Day 5

Suggested Ride: Sant Grau 100km/1420m ascent.

Whilst the mountains are magnificent in this part of the world, the coastline gives them a good run for their money. Take a ride out over Sant Grau and on the Costa Brava over rolling terrain to tick this must-ride route off of your cycling bucket list.

Meals include: Breakfast

Day 6

Suggested Ride: Rocacorba 72km/1393m ascent.

The Rocacorba climb has attained considerable status in recent years as the unofficial testing ground for local pros. The likes of Dan Martin, David Millar and Giro winner Ryder Hejsedal all regularly set times up here when training for big races. Today is your chance to take them on!

Meals include: Breakfast

Day 7

We say “adios” before your transfer to Girona or Barcelona.

Please note that you are free to take rest days as and when you feel like it and alternative routes can be discussed at your welcome meeting.

Meals include: Breakfast
