Then you pedal on down the coastal road to My Son, built by the kings of Champa between the 4th and 14th centuries.

Day 1

Arrival in Hue.

You will start the tour in Hue, the old capital of the Ngu Yen Dynasty. We meet in the early afternoon for a tour of the Imperial Citadel, modelled on the Forbidden City in China. While much of this site was destroyed during the Tet Offensive you will nevertheless gain a clear understanding of how the royal family lived during the peak of their rule. You will then end the day with some traditional Vietnamese food for dinner.

Meals included: dinner

Day 2

Round tour Hue’s Tomb | Distance 19 miles (30 km) | Elevation +179m / -179m.

You will ride to a pier where you will meet our boat for a cruise on the Perfume River to the seven-story Thien Mu pagoda that has become the iconic symbol of the city. Then it's back on the bikes for a ride through the rolling countryside to Ming Mang mausoleum. After a walk through this extensive complex, you will cycle back across the Perfume river to Hue via the mausoleum of Khai Dinh.

Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 3

Round Tour Hue Countryside | Distance 31.25 miles (50 km) | Elevation +144m / -145m.

You will cycle a country loop of Hue through lush countryside on a mix of footpaths and quiet country lanes to the traditional village of Phuoc Tich. The route follows back roads passing through many untouched villages and local markets. Along the way you will come across a Catholic village, perhaps see locals making colourful incense or cutting bamboo into useful items. A highlight of Phouc Tich are the many homes that date back 200 years and follow traditional feng shui design. Enjoy a traditional lunch with Uncle Ho Van Te and learn more about this rich and culturally significant village. In the afternoon loop back toward Hue along quiet country lanes.

Meals included: breakfast, lunch

Day 4

From Hue to Lang Co | Distance 41 miles (65 km) | Elevation +122m / -125m.

Today you will leave Hue and follow the coast south. During the ride you will pass roads shaded by coconut palms, and dunes scattered with mini mausoleums. These colourful graveyards are comprised of broken tiles, and dishes inlaid to create symbols of life beyond this life in the form of lotus flowers, dragons and cranes. You will then ride to Phuoc Tuong Hill and ultimately transfer the final 40 km to Lang Co Beach. Here you will have lunch and the rest of the day is free to enjoy the resort and beach.

Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 5

From Lang Co to Hoi An | Distance 35 miles (55 km) | Elevation +791m / -788m.

The hardest cycling day lies ahead, with a 7-mile climb and an ascent of 550m to the top of Hai Van Pass. It is a gradual gradient with many switchbacks and the superb views at the top make it well worth the effort. The reward is a downhill to Danang, your destination for lunch. After lunch you will have a flat and very scenic ride to Hoi An. After a brief stop at the beach you will continue down this country road to Hoi An. This city was an important point of call for Chinese, Japanese and Portuguese traders and the architecture reflects its cosmopolitan past.

Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 6

Round Tour Hoi An | Distance 31.25 miles (50km) | Elevation +179m / -179m.

On day six, you will ride out on small village roads to My Son, the ancient centre of Cham civilization. The ride is worth the effort as you cycle along scenic country back roads past paddy fields passing many pretty villages. Eventually you will arrive at My Son, which was once Champa’s greatest city from the 4th to the 14th century. Although many of the temples were destroyed by American bombs, there is still enough of the archaeological site to impress most visitors. The afternoon will be spent visiting the site. In the afternoon you will have the option of transferring by bus back to Hoi An or riding back.

Meals included: breakfast, lunch

Day 7

End in Hoi An.

You will go for a walk through the market this morning. This will be also a perfect opportunity for you to try some local foods. We then say “tạm biệt” before you make your way home or extend your stay in Vietnam.

Meals included: breakfast
